Why Practice Meditation?
Meditation can contribute to our well-being through supporting self-awareness and a state of relaxed attentiveness. Through the practice of meditation, we provide ourselves the space and time to be still. Taking a moment to step out of “doing mode” and allowing ourselves just to be, we can break out of habitual behaviors that no longer serve us.
When we meditate we are removing ourselves from the same old patterns, roles, obligations, and pressures of day-to-day living and turn toward the still, calm space within. There is an abundance of research that meditation not helps us to reduce stress, but serves as a buffer against symptoms of anxiety and depression. How Can Compassion Awaken Resilience?
Compassion involves responding with empathy, kindness, and good will toward ourselves and others. The practice compassion during times of difficulty promotes resilience as it enables us access our internal resources and respond to life challenges with supportive care rather than reacting out of fear.
Our knee-jerk reaction to pain typically includes aversion, criticism, and judgment. Unfortunately, our reactivity only leads to increased distress. When we are able to embrace the challenges of life brings us with compassion, we can attend to our needs for self-care, acceptance, and a greater understanding of our needs.
